The Banner are horror-hardcore from Dirty Jerz. “DEVILHAWKS” is a great homage to Danzig and destroys everything in its path. The party keeps rolling as “Venom and Hope” makes me want to do a front flip off a stage. “Each Breath Haunted” sounds like His Hero is Gone and Deathreat with a sense of humor. All the songs have a horror-movie feel and are really fun.

The entire record is thrashy with fast guitars, short songs, and fun mosh parts. “Sovereign Black Pit” is an eerie instrumental that would be right at home on a late 80’s Slayer release. This shit is DARK.

The Banner should get even bigger with this release. Almost a perfect hardcore record on-par with American Nightmare’s “Background Music” and Modern Life is War’s “Witness.” I’m going to be listening to this for a while and who doesn’t like a band that thanks the entire State of New Jersey? If bands like The Banner and Doomriders continue to put out records, there might be some hope for hardcore yet. Get this.
