So how do you follow up the greatest album of 2004? If you’re the Eagles of Death Metal you make the greatest record of all time. Every second of “Death By Sexy” drips with sex and rock ‘n’ roll, and every note makes you want to get up and dance. Not to mention they urge to yell, “Praise the devil” at the top of your lungs.

Kicking down the door with “I Want You So Hard (Boy’s Bad News)” singer Jesse “The Devil” Hughes and company prove that the band isn’t a one trick pony. We are talking rock here from start to finish. The guitars feature short, choppy riffs. Guitar solos are used sparingly and focus on two things–twang and distortion.

While the last Eagles record was dismissed as a Queens of the Stone Age side product by some critics, thanks to the involvement of QOTSA mastermind Josh Homme (he also produced this one), there is no way to confuse the two. The only track that resembles Homme’s other band is the mesmerizing “Eagles Goth,” which has no chorus and would fit in nicely on a Dessert Sessions record.

Hughe’s signature soprano voice is all over “Death By Sexy,” but has been reigned in a little to sound less annoying and more rock ‘n’ roll. Stand out tracks include the trash rock classic “Poor Doggie” and the catchy as all hell “Cherry Cola.” And yes, every track on here seems to be about sex, with the exception of “Bag O’ Miracles,” a classic blues prayer-style song that sends shivers up one’s spine.

For the record, haters of the first album who were turned off by the false starts and drum machine-style beats, fear not. While the drums still sound a bit processed, “Death By Sexy” is solid and professional all the way through.

On April 11 go out and buy “Death By Sexy,” submit to the devil, and prepare to be rocked.
