The Sainte Catherines “Dancing For Decadence”

Fat Wreck Chords

Sporting a similar California punk/hardcore style as labelmates Good Riddance, this band of Canadian ruffians pound out chugga chugga guitar riffs that would have been quite fashionable circa 1995.

Vocals tag off between gruff roars and whiskey-drenched singing, backed by simple punk beats and some catchy choruses. The lyrics sound juvenile at times (We’ll burn this place/ We’ll burn this place down), but then again how many punk tunes are that smart (besides Bad Religion)?

About halfway through the CD the songs to get hella repetitive, with little drum variation and the same old punk formula. It’s funny because The Sainte Catherines would probably have fit perfectly on Fat back when the label was teeming with Brackets and 88 Finger Louies, but today, a band like this just comes off boring.
