I feel for any band given the assignment of covering a Stray Cats song, because no matter what they do they will never be able to touch the guitar-playing genius of Brian Setzer. That said, every band on here does their best to pay homage to the legendary rockabilly band while staying true to their own style.

Some bands rock a little more, some go the psychobilly route, and some stay as true to the original as possible. Mad Marge and the Stonecutters tear through “Fishnet Stockings” showing off why they are being called the best female-fronted psychobilly band hands down.

Reel Big Fish bring the horns and the cheesiness. It could be worse; Goldfinger could be on the record. Os Catalepticos start off with a dead-on version of “Bring it Back Again,” but the moment the singers gruff vocals take center stage, the band tear into a violent version of the tune. Rezurex, on the other hand, never stray. Their version of “Runaway Boys” is fantastic through and through. Same with psychobilly legends Batmobile, who rock through “Ubangi Stomp.” Meanwhile, the Koffin Kats just turn “9 Lives” into their own song, transforming it into a Koffin Kat masterpiece.

Hairball 8 did a great job rounding up some new up and comers and some pyschobilly mainstays to create a great tribute to one of the best rockabilly bands ever. Here’s hoping more tributes like this are coming down the pike.

Actually, Andrew Romero, owner of Baseline Music Co. put the tribute together. Hairball8 used their manufacturer and distributors, nothing more.
