Feeling Green at Jonathan LeVine
Johnathan LeVine gave art fans, press, and VIPs a sneak peak at Doze Green and Andrew Schoultz’s exhibit “The Left Hand Path†and “Cataclysmic Mayhem,†respectively. The artists’ styles are quite different, but neither clash, even with Green’s exhibit sandwiching Schoultz’s with pieces scattered on both sides of the vast gallery.
Doze Green has matured so much from his graffiti days. Lettering is still sparsely evident in his large scale paintings. Work ranged from dark and shadowy to bright and bombastic, exchanging the street style for a more outsider art feel. Doze said that his venture in the toy industry was fun, but is planning on moving away from vinyl and more towards sculpture work.
Schoultz’s display featured a massive three dimensional installation designed to look like a dreary factory and included a painted lake, boat, and square elephant creatures. If you stare at the sculpture long enough it almost looks like a painting. Most of his paintings featured warriors, fortresses, and sailing vessels, all saturated in bright pinks, reds, and contrasting gray colors.
The preview was well attended, with an appearance from Supersized madman Ron English and H2O bassist Rusty Pistachio. The show will open to the public Saturday, Sept. 9 and will run through Oct. 7.
