Th’ Legendary Shack-Shakers “Pandelirium”

Equal parts rockabilly, cow punk, and gypsy music, Th’ Legendary Shack-shakers have churned out the best record of their career–an exciting, danceable romp into a world of moonshine, hot rods, and even hotter girls.

Singer J.D. Wilkes switches up his vocal style throughout the record, sounding like “Pepper”-era Gibby Hayes one minute and Tom Waits the next. The band never sticks to one style, with scorching guitar solos that recall Carlos Santana, and an upright bass tone that shakes the room (or, ahem, the shack). This record would make a perfect soundtrack to the cancelled HBO series “Carnivale.” It’s just so raw–every single note sounds like it’s covered with dust and mud.

In an age where bands drop out of nowhere and land on the top of the charts, it’s nice to see a band like the Shack-shakers finally get some props after meandering in the psychobilly scene for what seems like a lifetime. Here’s to ya.

If you like the album, go see ‘em live. you will not believe it. I’ve seen the boys 5 times in three years and pine for more.
