Hello, I’m Insane!

Huck Gee Dunny (front) Huck Gee Dunny

Huck Gee made a veiled reference last week alluding to a possible black version of his popular “Hi, My Name Is…” Dunny, and he wasn’t kidding. This Friday, March 2, at noon (pst), Huck will release 10 customized “Insane” editions of the figure at his eBay store. The 8″ figure sports its own straightjacket and Hannibal-style mouth guard. Each Dunny will cost $400.

Lewd, Screwed, and Tattooed

Dunnys

Someone plug the leak. Looks like Kid Robot is going to be releasing yet another series of 3″ Dunnys in 2007. The Kid Robot forum was buzzing today with news of a new Tattooed series of Dunnys. Pictures began circulating around noon. These guys look way more bad ass than the upcoming Colette series. Looks like a return to form for the big KR. Then again rumors of the tattooed series have been stirring since Series 1, so who knows. Then again, these could be imaginary.

Getting Spooky With Doktor A

juggernautcardlorez.jpg

When it comes to reimagining vinyl toys, few artists have as much vision and offer as much creativity as the mysterious Doktor A. Hailing from somewhere east of the Atlantic, the dear Doktor has been churning out custom toys based on some of the greatest creatures that ever existed—Frankenstein, Dracula, and many more. His work looks dirty, grimy, and dusty, and his characters seem to have been born from a world long lost. To say Dok A is one of the best customizers in the business wouldn’t be an exaggeration. His work is sought after by collectors around the world, and no true collection is complete without a piece from his laboratory. Life In A Bungalo sat down with the Doktor to find out just what makes him tick. Read more »

WANTED: The Bungalo Is Looking For A Few Good Writers

Life In A Bungalo is on the hunt for a few more writers. We’re looking for motivated people who love searching for new garage rock and psychobilly bands, or discovering cool urban/lowbrow artists. I’m talking interviews, podcasts, record reviews, and show reviews—we’re looking for anything to make this Web zine better.

Here’s the catch—You will make zero money. Life In A Bungalo makes about $100 a year, or just under the $114 it costs for server fees each year. What we can offer is access to our 3,000+ CD database as well free passes to shows and easy access to bands for interviews. We’ve been doing this for 12 years and have access to a lot of cool labels and artists.

To make life easy for you, here’s a list of what we cover:

Music: garage rock (new and old), psychobilly, high octane rock, punk, hardcore, cow punk, street rock, and some hip-hop. We cover mostly independent music, and work hard to promote young bands and labels. Though if they suck, we say they suck.
Art: graffiti, lowbrow, pop surrealism, urban vinyl, stencil work, and outsider art.

If you are interested, send a few writing samples and a list of your top five bands or artists to george@lifeinabungalo.com

Brazil Style in Chelsea

img_3118.jpg

Jonathan LeVine plays host to eight Brazilian artists this month with the launch of his most international exhibition yet—Ruas de Sao Paulo: A Survey of Brazilian Street Art. Looks like last month’s art auction paid off. LeVine raised enough money to bring all of the artists over from Brazil to attend their opening (all but Speto made the trip).

First off, LeVine expanded his space, offering twice as much room for cool new art. Six gallery rooms are shared between the eight artists, their work running the gamut between huge installation murals and stunning works on canvas. Read more »
