Andy Warhol Remembered

The Carrozini von Buhler Gallery was transformed into Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory last month (Feb. 22 through Apr. 12) as a bevy of fans and celebrities clamored into the space for a celebration honoring the twenty-year anniversary of Warhol’s death. Titled “Andy Warhol: In His Wake,” the event featured artwork from factory-era luminaries Ultra Violet, Taylor Mead, Billy Name, and Ivy Nicholson, as well as modern contemporaries Amy Cohen Banker, Cynthia von Buhler, Pamela Martin, William Tisdale, Molly Weingart, and Gary Azon. Anton Perich and Steve Joester, both great artists that spent time documenting Warhol and his entourage of glam and decadence, also presented artistic homages to the master of pop art.

The opening was quite the party. Warhol fans lined up outside to get a peak at CVB’s rendition of the Factory. Inside, silver balloons floated about as disco balls glittered against the artwork adorning most of the walls. Isabelle “Ultra Violet” Collin Dufresne chatted with news reporters while art icon Taylor Mead read a poem for Warhol. Sure, half the people at CVB were probably under 15 when Warhol died in 1997, but for those that couldn’t experience the factory firsthand, this was the next best thing.

Andy Warhol: In His Wake is curated by Cynthia von Buhler, Amy Cohen Banker, and Kevin Kushel, and was dedicated to artist Gary Azon who died in mid-February. There will be a closing party at the gallery on Apr. 12 from 6 to 10 pm.
