Punk Planet No More

Punk Planet #80It’s always sad to watch a fanzine fold, but you kind of get numb to it after a while. In all honesty, there haven’t been many paper ‘zines since the heyday of fan publications back in the late ’90s. Who needed Rolling Stone, when you could stroll down to the local punk rock store and pick up Midget Breakdancing, Jersey Beat, or Muddle? Sadly, those days have long been over, and now the crown prince of zinedom has ceased to exist. Punk Planet, the foremost authority on all things punk, has announced that it will be closing its doors after issue #80, on sale right now. The magazine ran out of cash after its publishing house filed for bankruptcy. This sucks so much. Punk Planet is the first place that gave me the inside scoop on Epitaph Records, told the true tale of Black Flag, and really gave hope to the DIY scene. Now, with little fanfare, the ‘zine that could is closing its doors. If you can, try to find “We Owe You Nothing: The Collective Interviews.” It’s been recently re-released with new interviews. If you have a few bucks left, send it over to Punk Planet so that they can pay their writers.
