Head "No Hugging No Learning"

I have no idea how long this album has been out. It says 2006 on the back but I only just heard about it. I thought Seattle, WA’s Head completely disappeared after their 1997 The Monkeys LP. Apparently they’ve been around in one form or another (guitarist Giggles is no longer a full-time member, although he appears in the background on the free gigantic poster that comes with this LP).

About two years ago I wrote them a letter while drunk and they never wrote back; I figured they were long gone and closed their post office box, but alas, they still have the same address… fuckers! They have a 7″ due any time now on Memphis, TN’s Goner Records (they’ll be playing this year’s Gonerfest in September and I’ll be there!).

Musically, Head continues on with their Ramones-core sound. The guitars are thick, just like their 12″ EP Street Level Assault (I always thought The Monkeys sounded kinda thin, even though all three releases were recorded by Conrad Uno at Egg Studios). The subject matter is also what you expect from Head – Angry Samoans-ish smart/dumbass-ness (with lines like “Two chicks at a time is the American dream/I want some of that girl-girl action;” “Now they might call them homeless/but they used to call them bums” and “If they’ve got triple neck guitars/why can’t they make a triple neck saxophone?”).

Pick this album up ASAP, I think it’s LP-only and limited. These guys can really brighten your day!
