Well, as four or five of you might know, Life In A Bungalo was not always called Life In A Bungalo. The fanzine was originally pretentiously titled Marked for Life. It served as some lame call to arms, and at a time when sanctimonious straighedge bands with names like Path of Resistance ruled the punk scene, I thought it would fit right in.

What I didn’t know was that there existed a comic book by the same name. A comic book with a lawyer. Once cease and desist letter later and I was ready to put the ‘zine to rest faster than you could say broke teenager. At the same time, my parents moved me into our basement, which we turned into a pretty cool punk rock rec room. My buddy Mike dubbed it the Bungalow and thought it would be fitting to rechristen the ‘zine Life In A Bungalow.

Issue #2 was slapped together pretty quickly. Although pathetic in content, MFL #1 caused a bit of a buzz and record labels started sending me CDs to review. I interviewed a phenomenal local band called One Nature that sadly never became as big as all the emo bands that ripped their melodic hardcore style. A few show reviews and some columns from my friends helped round out the issue.

We had only one hiccup. At the time, we were still cutting and pasting this thing together and we ran out of ink when we printed the cover. The font of the title of the ‘zine was too large the first and only time we printed it out and we didn’t have enough cash to buy more ink. Someone, I don’t remember who, just cut of the ‘W’, and said it looked cooler without it anyway. From then on, not a month went by when I didn’t received an e-mail or letter from someone makeing fun of me for misspelling Bungalow. Joy.

Thanks for the nice remarks about us (One Nature). We all really appreciate the recognition. Hopefully we will be playing again soon (12yrs later). I will post it on our myspace page, and hope to see you there so we can meet and catch up.
