Shepard Fairey x Glen E Friedman x Bad Brains

Obey Giant X Bad Brains

I’m probably shooting myself in the foot for posting this, but Shepard Fairey is releasing an amazing new screenprint this week featuring photography by Glen E. Friedman and signed by all original members of The Bad Brains (as well as Fairey and Friedman). All for the bargain basement price of $120. It’s going to be an edition of 425, but I still don’t expect it to last long. Read the rest of this entry »

Sugar Skulls by Brian Morris on Hold

I’ve been waiting to buy one of Brian Morris’s vinyl sugar skulls since the day I saw them on the I Want Your Skull blog. I almost forgot about them until I received an IM from a friend who is interested in making his own vinyl sugar skulls. After a bit of research, I decided to just hit Brian up with an email to find out what’s going on with the awesome busts. Sadly, the news isn’t great.

I hate to say it, but the Busts are in a permanent holding pattern. After working with 7 different factories and 2 separate “hand-paint” shops, we can’t get the result that we were trying to achieve in the printing. So rather than put out a shoddy product, we’ve shelved it until the technology catches up to the toy’s printing requirements. The printing and concept looks so simple, but requires very tight printing and overlaps. Plenty of other projects in the works, but this particular one is a long way from finished.

Shag at Jonathan Levine Gallery

While most of the art world is heading to Miami for Art Basil, Jonathan Levine has one of the swankiest artist exhibiting at his gallery for the month of December. Yes, I’m talking about the king of modern cool and tiki style Josh “Shag” Agle. I got the chance to photograph the artist before the opening a few weeks back in a room that was pretty much created to show of his new wallpaper. The only other thing in the gallery was a trio of wooden fish dangling from the ceiling. Pretty surreal. Too bad I didn’t have a wide angle lens with me to catch the full fish.
