It took me way too long to realize that The Advantage’s name was taken from that old school Nintendo controller The NES Advantage. It was known as the super controller because it was a joystick on steroids, designed to look like an arcade console. I was poor and was only able to afford the NES Max, which was a cooler looking version of the regular Nintendo controller, and it offered a turbo feature—Ooooh turbo.

That said, the band The Advantage is a four piece group that covers classic (and not so classic) Nintendo tunes. The catch is that they meticulously recreate those midi masterpieces without using keyboards. Nothing here, but dueling guitars, drums and bass to bring songs from legendary games such as Super Mario Bros 2, Zelda and Bubble Bobble into the modern age.

Has '80s nostalgia gone to far? Maybe, but it’s hard not to resist dusting off that old gray and white console for just one more round of Wizards and Warriors. Just make sure you blow in the game first.
