Modern Life Is War
"Witness"
Deathwish Records, INC
Iowa
has produced Slipknot and now thank god Iowa have given us Modern
Life Is War. I’m not sure if Hardcore is ready for this epic
release, but everyone better get their asses in gear, because “Witness” has
been released and it’s simply mind-numbing how talented this
band is.
Modern
Life Is War is not your traditional hardcore band in which they have
breakdowns, fancy guitar work, and
care more about their
fashion then the music they produce. They are about playing the brand
of punk rock that people who shop in Hot Topic would absolutely hate.
This group of guys from Iowa wear their hearts on their sleeve and
it shows in their music. It’s the most honest release I’ve
heard from a band in the last few years. I’m grouping every type
of style of music and this tops them all.
When
being talked about for best albums of 2005, Comeback Kid and System
of a Down get all the press, but
to
be honest, it’s bands
like Modern Life is War and Kill Your Idols who have produced the years
best albums to date. Witness is a journey through the mind of Jeff
Eaton. He lets it all out for us to consume and I have to say, this
album is nearly perfect. This is another band that has totally dismissed
the whole Sophomore Jinx and made an album that is superior to “My
Love, My Way” which totally blew my mind the first time I saw/heard
them.
To
get an idea of the band, the song, “D.E.A.D. R.A.M.O.N.E.S.” is
so upbeat by their standards and it’s a good song to get into
the rest of the album. I feel if you were to listen to anything else,
the casual fan would be turned off.
People
are starting to notice this band, coming off a ridiculously popular
European tour with Converge
and then tearing
the states apart
with Terror, Comeback Kid and Sinai Beach. They are opening themselves
up to a new set of fans, maybe some kids today will get into this band,
because if one band in punk rock/hardcore deserve the respect of everyone
involved, Modern Life is War is that band. Everyone should see this
band, support them, buy their albums. Because I don’t know if
a band like this will come around again in this lifetime.
