Kill Your Idols
From Companionship to Competition
SideOneDummy Records

It is so nice to hear a band playing no frills hardcore, the way it was meant to be played. Kill Your Idols have returned with their third full-length album, and one of the best hardcore records in some time.

What we have is 15 tracks of hardcore in its purest form. Their sound reminds us all of bands like Negative Approach and Poison Idea. Kill Your Idols have been providing hardcore fans with this type of output for some time and they continue with this latest release.

The tracks give you the typical KYI sound in a little over 28 minutes. Topics on the album are the same as they've always been. The band have never not let their feelings be known about the scene and who is in it. This album continues to come out against people who are into hardcore for the wrong reasons. They dwell on the fact that the "MallPunk" scene is rapidly growing. But what do you expect, the band has been around for a while, they know a thing or two about the scene now.

The songs range from 2 minutes in length to 14 seconds. Short and sweet has always been the way the band worked. And song titles and covers are key on this release. They also cover "Still Pist" by old school punk rockers The Pist. Whether it's Sheer Terror, Negative Approach, or The Pist--They always do a good rendition of an old song. And "Still Pist" is no different.

Hardcore fans should be thrilled that this band is still around. Their message is always good for people into hardcore, they continue to pump out release after release without stopping. They continually tour and are generally good guys. The songs on this album are the furthest from groundbreaking, but it's the same formula they've used since their earliest releases.
