Bloody Sunday
"To Sentence The Dead"
Facedown Records

Bloody Sunday have taken their last album “They Attack At Dawn” and have improved so much that it made me realize that they will not be bitten by the sophomore jinx, and I thought their last album was phenomenal. Twenty-nine religiously based minutes of pure driven hardcore give this Virginia Beach group something to build on for the future.

Changing vocalists from the first CD to their current one would usually slow a band, but they haven’t lost a step and in the process have given everyone a hardcore CD that will stay in CD players for some time. With the CD you get that Thug-Core sound on some songs, some brutal breakdowns as well as some Youth Crue-esque sing a longs on some songs. I will say it’s about as traditional a form of hardcore as I’ve heard, they have really surprised me with the quality of the recording, as you hear all the instruments clearly enough. Only problem is that the vocals sound a bit muffed, like there is some distortion on it, and it takes away from the sound of the songs a little.

Stand out tracks on this awesome CD are definitely “There‘s nothing Relative about Family” and “False Ideas of Perfection," because it shows the band doing what they do best, delivering bone crushing breakdowns, having a catching chorus and giving us just a good song.

I do love the sound of the Old School influence on it, because today too many bands are focusing on sounding like the last big band and trying to capitalize on their success, Bloody Sunday have taken all the forms of music they like and molded them into a solid release.
