Bob
Mould
"Body of Song"
Yep Roc
Wow, I don't think I've tetered on a review this much since the last
Frank Black record. Bob Mould, legendary punk singer and wrestling
booker, decided to go the electronic route a few years back and was
met with critical failure. Now the leader of Husker Du is back with
guitars and keyboards.
On
first listen, "Body of Song" does not rock... much. But spin it a
few times and the songs become catchy and the tune gets stuck in
your head. The tracks can't touch Husker Du or his '90s rock-lite
band Sugar, but there's no denying that there is a groove to each
and every song on here.
The
guitars are distorted, but feedback is kept to a minimum. The beat
sounds processed, almost sounding like a dance track, and there is
no mistaking the keyboard tracks dancing in and out of the choruses
like a digital soundscape, however, this does record does rock. But,
"Body of Song" should be reserved for only diehard Mould fans and
music buffs who don't mind opening their minds to music with texture.
