Horrorpops
"Bring It On!"
Hellcat

The Horrorpops have spend the last few trying convince the world that they are not a psychobilly band. They feel that they are unclassifiable and should just be considered rock artists with a focus on cool pop. I say bullshit. After cherry picking the craziest psychos in the planet to join their band (most recently Geoff Kresge, formerly of AFI and Tiger Army), and cranking up the double bass throughout this record, the Horrorpops firmly entrench themselves into the hallways of psychobilly history. Whether you like them, now that's another beast all together.

Yeah there is a pop influence on the record, but we are not talking No Doubt or Madonna here. Singer Patricia Day sounds about as sultry as as Courtney Love and the duel guitars courtesy of Kresge and Kim Nekroman just shred. "Freaks In Uniform" tears the disc open with a full on wreckin' masterpiece that is also the best track on the record. From there sings either get punk or a little ballady. Not really slow, but more like the softer, more gentle Tiger Army stuff that Nick 13 has been writing nowadays.

The production on "Bring It On!" is way tighter then on the band's debut record "Hell Yeah!," but the glossy mix job does take a bit away from the band's raw intensity. Day's vocals also are a little high on the mix, but the bass is still front and center where it needs to be.

Yeah, a lot of "true" psychobilly fans absolutely hate the Horrorpops, but then again, most of them are still stuck in 1984. The Horrorpops play rock 'n' roll with a psychobilly attitude that kick anybody's teeth in.
